Is This Real, or A Dream? - my first show
On Thursday, November 16th my first solo show is opening at the Robert C. Turner Gallery from 6-8pm!!
A surrealist exhibition of paintings and collages, the work creates psychologically provocative scenes that are both enticing and uncomfortable. My work is about the psychology of the individual. None of the pieces are titled so that the meaning of the work is derived completely from personal associations and interpretations. I use ambiguous imagery that are no longer symbols, but personal images we associate with our individual human experiences. I want the viewer to feel hesitant yet eager to dive in, confused but satisfied, and intrigued yet awkward.
I’ve been so nervous and stressed about this show. It’s a lot of responsibility to take on on top of being a full-time student. I’ve had to trust the process and know that the work will create itself as long as I let go and let my creativity be expressed.
It’s also scary to let your art be vulnerable. Knowing I’m putting my art on display, open to everyone’s opinions and criticisms is frightening. It’s exposure therapy for me to share something I’ve often kept so private. But I also know vulnerability is how we grow. I am facing my fears head-on by making this show. Please come and support me and my art :)
